An Open Letter to Salomé
May 23, 2020

Dear Salomé,
I remember when you were only an idea, a wish I prayed for every night. I imagined how we would play together and become best friends. Years passed before you were born, but I did not stop hoping, asking God for your arrival. I was so excited when my mom said she was pregnant, and even more elated that you were a girl. Little sister, you will never have to wonder if you were wanted. You should never doubt that you are incredibly loved, because even before you were born, you were cherished and longed for.
Today, you turn thirteen years old. As you enter your first year of adolescence, I experience my last, and though there is a lot I could teach you, I know you will want to prove some things on your own. However, the most important thing I can tell you is to listen to our parents and to be sure of who you are.
Our parents genuinely want the best for you, and their advice is based on firm foundations. Listen to them, even if it's hard. I know that it's also hard to know who you are during adolescence. You're trying on different personalities to see what fits, you're figuring out who your real friends are, and you're making your relationship with God your own. It's a difficult time, but I know you will handle it so well.
To remind you of who you are in those moments, I want to keep this in writing so you can read it when you need to and I am not there to help you. Salo, you are full of love. Your smile can brighten anyone's day. You are genuine, and you say it like it is. You do not fake anything to please people. Your hugs are the sweetest gift anyone could receive. You are strong, and you know that true strength lies also in gentleness and vulnerability. You are a good friend, a good sister, and a good daughter. You are loved by God, by your family, and your kind friends like Sara Juanita.
Memé, you although I will be leaving soon, I do not want you to think that I'll be gone from your life. I hope you know that you can call me whenever, and you can always count on me. I will always pray for you and listen when you need to vent.
Dearest sister, I pray that you will grow up to be a woman of God. I ask God that He will mold your heart to be more like His, and that He will place people in your life to guide you on His path. I pray that you will always feel loved and cared for, and that you find your identity in Christ.
I encourage you to make your relationship with God personal. He is waiting with His arms wide open. Always remember that you have a support system; your family will always be there when you need us. We want the best for you. Welcome to this new stage of life, which is full of experiences and opportunities, and don't forget I'll be there when you need me.
I love you always.
Yours truly,
Isa
